  • 15 July 2019New: Include user's starred stories in My Stories export

UPDATE This feature is now live.

Starred stories (stories you picked as "favorite") are now included in the My Stories export.

In the CSV export, the author information is added at the end of the story, for example:

19,朋,"companion",1,,"The story goes here. (★ story by CoolCat)"

The way it works currently, is to export one story per kanji. A starred story will be selected if there is no personal story for that given kanji. When there are 2+ starred stories, it's more or less random as there are no criterias to select one or another.

Let me know if there are any issues!

Thanks to rexto for the suggestion! Github issue #159.

  • 7 July 2019Updated keyboard shortcuts for Flashcard Review

Please take note of the updated keyboard shortcuts for Flashcard Reviews:

    Shortcut Answer
    N ... 1 No
    H ... 2 Hard
    Y ... 3 Yes
    E ... 4 Easy

To recap, until today you could answer No, Yes, Easy with the numbers keys: 1, 2, 3. While Hard answer had the keyboard shortcut H, it didn't have a number row shortcut.

This update adds a number row shortcut, as well as the equivalent on the numeric keypad. See the Help button in Flashcard Review, for a recap.

Following suggestion from Inclushe on Github (issue #158), I thought it would be better overall to align the shortcuts with Anki -- making it more intuitive when switching between Anki and Koohii.

Hopefully this change doesn't cause too much disturbance. I figured worst case scenario if you didn't notice this change right away, you would have used smaller intervals in the meantime (eg. pressing 3 was "Easy" but now it's "Yes").

  • 4 July 2019Update to the open source repository (using Docker)

The Kanji Koohii repository on Github was updated today with a new Docker setup!

The repository uses a very simple but functional setup: there is a php/Apache container, and a MySQL container. It's very simple to install and a sample database is automatically configured.

The sample database includes 3 "top voted stories" for 2200 RTK kanji (6th edition), plus two random stories per page. This provides enough environment to simulate the production site, while keeping the sample database small (the mysql/ volume should take less than 150 MB after installation).

Keep in mind this is a very old codebase. If you are learning "frontend" or "backend" development, look elsewhere! If you are curious however, want to fiddle with the SQL queries. have some ideas for improving the Dictionary results perhaps? Or if you like design and want to try out some ideas that you are too limited with Greasemonkey / Stylish extensions... be my guest :)
